There was a lot that went into Trevor Lawrence nailing the two-point conversion in the Jaguars’ AFC Wild Card win over the Chargers.

Lawrence admitted he changed the call relayed in from head coach Doug Pederson. The former Clemson quarterback ended up hitting a quarterback sneak from a yard out but reached over the goal line to make sure the ball crossed the plane.

So while it was not exactly a traditional quarterback sneak, it worked and it was monumental in the 31-30 win.

“Uhh, yeah I did,” Lawrence said. “Yeah, I did. It’s a play where I just saw the opportunity. I figured that would be a lot easier. I didn’t feel like there was a lot of risk in that, knew I could get it in. So, I just took it.”

Lawrence managed to get a nice lane to the end zone and scored rather quickly to cut the lead 30-28. Jacksonville ended up getting the ball back for one final drive and kicked the game-winning field goal to advance to the AFC Divisional Round versus the Kansas City Chiefs.

But how did Pederson react? Lawrence gave a two-sided answer.

“He was pumped,” Lawrence said. “If you make the play, you’re good. That’s one thing that is kind of a no-no but you got to make the play. There are certain looks that you got to be careful — we saw in the Ravens-Bengals game where that look got returned for a touchdown. Certain things you don’t want to do it against.

“Obviously, the ball is the most important thing but I felt confident in it. The coaching staff has trusted me to make plays and I am accountable for all that.”

Jacksonville trailed 27-7 at halftime and Lawrence was picked off four times. But from there, he put together some of the best football of his career.

Lawrence finished the game 28-of-47 passing for 288 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. He found four different receivers for the scores: Evan Engram, Christian Kirk, Zay Jones and Marvin Jones Jr.

But it’s no secret the Jaguars need their “A” game in order to pull off a road upset over the Chiefs. The Chiefs were tied for the best record (14-3) in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles and made four straight AFC Championships.

The Super Bowl LIV win remains the highlight of the run for the Chiefs, giving them the playoff experience advantage.
