Brian Robinson is getting back onto the football field before anyone could’ve ever imagined.

Late in the offseason, Robinson was shot twice during an armed Robbert attempt, which he thankfully survived. Prior, he was on his way to becoming the primary ball carrier for the Washington Commanders, which is no small feat to accomplish as a rookie.

After being placed on the non-football injury list and missing the first couple weeks of the season, a return — and debut — could be in the near future for Robinson. On Monday, he was taken off the list, and will now look to trend towards playing in the coming weeks.

“Ron Rivera said Commanders RB Brian Robinson was medically cleared and will ‘start his clock’ — the three-week window in which the team can either activate him or leave him on NFI,” tweeted Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post. “Robinson was shot twice during an armed robbery attempt in late August.”

Continuing, Robinson was able to wrestle a firearm away from one his two attackers before the other shot him twice, according to DC Police. The bullets hit him in the knee area and in the glute, per the report. The police were able to identify the two suspects and recovered a weapon from the area after the attempted carjacking incident.

Afterwards, Robinson got surgery for the injuries and returned to the team facility at the end of August. He recently made headlines by showing off his training videos, as he’s coming along faster than anyone could’ve hoped.

The Commanders drafted Robinson with the No. 98 overall pick in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. As a fifth-year senior in 2021, Robinson rushed for 1,343 yards and 14 touchdowns to help Alabama to the national championship game — an eventual 33-18 loss to Georgia. He also got involved in the passing game, catching 35 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns.

With Robinson is unavailable for Washington, the depth chart at running back for the Commanders has been led by Antonio GibsonJ.D. McKissic and Jonathan Williams. As the former Bama back continues his recovery, he’ll look to ascend up to become the top choice.

As you can see, Monday is a huge day for Brian Robinson, and the first step to him getting on the football field for the Washington Commanders.
