WATCH: Jordan Love throws first NFL touchdown pass to Allen Lazard
Second-year quarterback Jordan Love connected with wide receiver Allen Lazard for his first career touchdown pass. After struggling against the Kansas City Chiefs for three quarters, the former first-round draft pick led the Green Bay Packers down the field to make it a 13-7 game with just under five minutes to play.
After throwing an incomplete pass toward veteran Randall Cobb in the endzone, the Packers quarterback came back to the huddle with a fourth-down play call. After a timeout allowed head coach Matt LaFleur to communicate with his inexperienced quarterback, they returned to the field. On fourth-and-five from the Chiefs 20-yard line, Love dropped back and delivered a throw to the left sideline. Lazard ducked a defender and ran into the endzone for the touchdown.
On the day, Jordan Love is 19-for-34 with 190 passing yards, his first career touchdown and an interception. He also added five carries for 23 yards, a new wrinkle in the offense. His pass to Allen Lazard was the first target and completion of the day, but came at the perfect time.
Praise for Jordan Love
Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst had lots of great things to say about his future signal-caller, former Utah State quarterback Jordan Love. Packers fans got a glimpse toward that future Sunday when Love replaced Aaron Rodgers, who is on the COVID-19 list.
“I thought for his first live action since Utah State, I thought he was very calm, poised. I thought he was able to get in and out of the plays that Matt wanted him to get in and out of,” Gutekunst said. “And I didn’t think the rush bothered him. I thought he kept his eyes downfield. I thought he made some really good throws and, again, obviously there are some moments that he’ll look back on and grow from.
“But at the same time, he moved the team. We would’ve like to have finished better in that last game. But I thought it was really, really positive.”
For the entire preseason, Love completed 24 of his 35 passing attempts for 271 yards, while tossing one touchdown and an interception.
Jordan Love was selected to the Honorable Mention All-Mountain West team in 2019. In 2018, his best year with the Aggies, he was named Second Team All-Mountain West. He set several career records while at Utah State, including: total yards (9,003), career 300-yard passing games (12), and completions of at least 80 yards (four).
