Week 3 is off to a good start for rookie Trevor Lawrence, who found receiver DJ Chark in the corner of the end zone for a second-quarter touchdown pass. At halftime Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars lead Arizona, 13-7.

The 12-yard Trevor Lawrence touchdown pass tied the game at 7 with just seconds to go before halftime. The former Clemson Tiger was 12-of-17 for 117 yards and also had an interception at the break.

Then, not even a minute after Lawrence’s touchdown, Jacksonville struck again. In the craziest play of the afternoon, Jamal Agnew returned a missed field goal 109 yards for a touchdown to give the Jaguars the lead. It was the longest play in NFL history.

Lawrence, the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL draft, has yet to win an NFL game. Can the Jaguars ride the momentum of both big plays into the second half to claim a victory?

The quarterback spent three seasons with Clemson and led them to a national championship in the 2018 season. The Tigers returned to the title game the following year but lost to LSU. Lawrence finished second in the Heisman voting this past year.

Interceptions have been an issue for the rookie early in his career. He threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns in his NFL debut, but also had three picks. In his second game against Denver, he threw more interceptions (2) than touchdowns (1).

One of the NFL’s most beleaguered franchises, the Jaguars have made the playoffs only once since 2008. They took Lawrence with the hope that his talent could be the thing to lead them out of that drought. The team also added receiver Marvin Jones Jr. from Detroit to bolster his weapons.

So far, the results have yet to come, but rebuilding a team takes time. If Jacksonville is unable to pull out a win against the Cardinals, they’ll get another shot next week against the Cincinnati Bengals.
