The Philadelphia Eagles and cornerback Jaire Alexander could have mutual interest, following the latter’s release from the Green Bay Packers. Despite injuries, Alexander was one of the better corners in the NFL.

However, it would only come at the right price per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Eagles also had veteran CB Darius Slay, but opted not to bring him back while he signed a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Eagles would stay on the youth track with their cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean and others. However Alexander, while not in the twilight of his career, is still in his prime years, albeit with injuries.

“Jaire Alexander, if the price were right. you’re doing a one year deal,” Schefter said on 97.5 The Fanatic. “Whatever the number is, a low number … yeah, that they could go make that work if that’s what they wanted to do.”

In just seven games last season, Alexander had 16 tackles, two interceptions and a touchdown off a pick-six. Alexander has 12 career interceptions and when he was healthy, he had five interceptions in 2022 over the course of 16 games.

The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman said Alexander and his agent, John Thornton of Roc Nation, did not agree to a restructured contract last month. Alexander had two years remaining on his current deal and wanted to stay with the Packers. Over the Cap indicated that Alexander has a 2025 cap number of $24.6 million, the third-highest on the team behind quarterback Jordan Love ($29.7 million) and defensive end Rashan Gary ($25.8 million).

Alexander is a talented cornerback but has had issues staying healthy. Over the last two seasons, the former Louisville Cardinals star played in 16 of a potential 37 games due to four different injuries and being suspended for one game. Schneidman said that Alexander participated in the voluntary first week of the offseason program, but it was virtual because of the draft being held in Green Bay.

The Eagles go into 2025 as the defending Super Bowl champions and adding to Alexander could be a low-risk move considering their current depth. In addition to Mitchell and DeJean, third-year man Kelee Ringo is the expected starter on the outside opposite Mitchell.

Reed Blankenship and Sydney Brown will man the safety spots with DeJean adding the flexibility to play some safety as well. If healthy, perhaps Alexander could be a solid addition in Philadelphia. But as Schefter pointed out, it has to be the right price and fit.
