Former NFL star running back Adrian Peterson commented on his future plans with the NFL and a possible return after his upcoming fight. Peterson played for the Tennessee Titans in three games last year after Derrick Henry went down with injury, before being waived in November. Peterson then appeared in one more game as a member of the Seattle Seahawks, and currently is not on an NFL roster as the season draws closer.

Peterson has recently turned his attention to an upcoming heavyweight boxing match between himself and former NFL running back Le’Veon Bell. The pair of athletes are scheduled for a celebrity boxing match on July 30th, something that Peterson says does not mean he’s done with football.

Adrian Peterson not ruling out NFL return

“Even after this fight I’ll still be on my same routine waiting for an opportunity to present itself,” said Peterson about his NFL prospects in a press appearance.

Both of the former All-Pro backs played in the NFL last season, although Bell appears to be pursuing a post-football career in boxing beginning with his fight against Peterson. Many speculated that Peterson could be considering the same career switch, although his comments on a potential return to NFL sidelines seems to indicate that he has no plans past July at this point.

Peterson was drafted seventh overall in 2007 by the Minnesota Vikings after a career at Oklahoma. He played in the NFL as recently as last season with the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks. The former MVP has totaled 17,392 yards from scrimmages during his career. He totaled 126 touchdowns as well during his 15 seasons with seven teams.

Meanwhile, Bell is the one who has been interested in pursuing a boxing career post-football. Bell was drafted 48th overall out of Michigan State by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2013. He also made rosters as recently as last season with both Baltimore and Tampa Bay. A three time Pro Bowler, Bell totaled 9,843 scrimmage yards and 51 total touchdowns with five teams.
