Saints star Alvin Kamara will meet with Roger Goodell today in New York to discuss a potential suspension related to the league’s personal conduct policy.

In July, Kamara agreed to a plea deal, which dropped a felony to a misdemeanor, for his part in a fight at a Las Vegas hotel and casino days before the 2022 Pro Bowl. As part of the plea deal, Alvin Kamara accepted a punishment of 30 hours of community service. Plus, a judge ordered him to pay $105,196.17 in restitution to the victim, Darnell Greene. The money was to pay for Greene’s past-due medical bills. He injured his eye during the fight.

Earlier this week, Greene’s attorney announced that a $10 million suit filed against Kamara had been settled out of court.

Kamara’s plea deal came last month, days before his trial was scheduled to start. In February, a Vegas grand jury indicted Kamara for assault from charges initially filed in February 2022. Chris Lammons, who recently signed with the Colts, also was charged in the fight. Kamara and Lammons were former teammates with the Saints.

When the fight first happened, Kamara, the former Tennessee football star, pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit battery,(a misdemeanor). And he pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of substantial bodily injury.

On Tuesday, the league issued a statement, saying: “We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review.”

Saints coach Dennis Allen says Alvin Kamara ‘trying to get ahead’ of situation

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the news about Alvin Kamara’s meeting with Goodell. NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo also confirmed the meeting. NFL policy allows for the league to seek additional punishment if a player violates the personal conduct rules. Judge Sue L. Robinson will conduct a hearing on whether Kamara violated the conduct policy and whether he should receive additional punishment.

Saints coach Dennis Allen addressed the Alvin Kamara situation this week.

“I think Alvin really wants to get out ahead of this and have a chance to visit with Roger and kind of give him his side of the story,” Allen told reporters. “And look, at the end of the day, I think part of it is, you know, let’s get some resolution to where we’re at and then let’s move forward. So, I think Alvin, you know, is looking forward to putting this behind him and focusing in on what he has to do to be the best he can for our team this season.”

Kamara is one of the best running backs in the NFL. With a salary of $15 million this year, he’s the second-highest-paid running back in the league after Christian McCaffrey ($16 million) of the 49ers.
