Albany Empire majority owner and former NFL star Antonio Brown is letting the world know he has an offer on the table for quarterback Cam Newton. Brown, who has yet to make his own debut for Albany, tweeted his offer out on Monday, hoping someone in Newton’s circle would pass the news along.

The former Steelers star is offering the 2015 NFL MVP a whopping $150,000 to play just a single game with him. He also put out a date for Newton to join them, June 16, although the Albany schedule actually has them playing on June 17 versus the Jacksonville Sharks.

“If anybody seen @CameronNewton let him know he haven’t thrown me a touchdown in a game yet and now we finally can make it happen @thealbanyempir 6/16/23 in Albany nyc !” Brown tweeted. “I’m offering Cam 150k one game play with me please spam his account”

The offer of $150,000 is certainly more than most arena league players make in a full season, but perhaps not enough to turn Newton’s head.

Although Newton is currently without a spot on an NFL roster for the 2023 season, he’s still on the hunt for one. He let teams know last month that he is willing to be a backup, in the right situation, including in Carolina with Bryce Young.

“I know a lot of people have a lot of things to say in regards to my future in the National Football League. And I want to set the record straight by saying, ‘This is how I feel. There ain’t 32 guys that are better than me, but I also know that I could also be a backup. And I would be a backup,” Newton said.

He then rattled off his list of players he’d like to backup: Deshaun WatsonLamar JacksonJustin FieldsTua TagovailoaMalik WillisC.J. StroudAnthony RichardsonJalen HurtsAaron RodgersJosh Allen, and Sam Howell.

If the former Panthers star doesn’t land a job for 2023, perhaps he would be willing to take AB up on his offer.

Brown misses planned debut for Albany Empire

Fans who expected to see Brown in action on Sunday for the Albany Empire were left disappointed. Although Albany announced that Sunday would be his debut for the team, in which he is also the majority owner, he was not on the field.

WNYT in Albany reported that the reason for Brown’s absence had to do with paperwork for his physical that did not come through. However, Chris Siegfried, the commissioner of the Arena Football League, said Antonio Brown could have overridden the decision because he is the team’s owner.

Brown told WNYT that he ultimately made the choice not to play because he wanted to set a good example for the other players. Still, he assured fans that he would make his debut soon.

“Stay tuned, AB’s coming,” the receiver told WNYT. “There’s proper procedures you’ve got to do to play football. You’ve got to pass the coach, the commissioner. You’ve got to be in physical condition. You can’t just pop up, so I’ve got to get my feet wet. We’ve got to get the proper equipment. We’ve got to do the right thing.

“But I am going to be playing. You didn’t lie. Everything is going to fall in place.”

A reported 4,500 fans showed up in anticipation of watching Brown play. That is 2,000 more than the Empire’s typical home crowd of 2,500.
