Report: Arrests made in Dallas murder investigation involving Kelvin Joseph
On Thursday, it was reported that Dallas Cowboys defensive back Kelvin Joseph was currently being investigated for his possible connection to an altercation that led to a fatal shooting in March. The incident happened at a club, where 20-year old Cameron Ray was killed.
Now, Tom Pelissero of ESPN is reporting that Dallas Police have cleared Joseph of being the shooter in the incident. Two arrests were made, as detectives identified two other young adults as the shooters in the homicide of Ray.
“Dallas Police say they arrested Aries Jones, 28, and Tivione English, 21, of Baton Rouge, La., whom detectives identified as the shooters in the homicide of Cameron Ray,” tweeted Pelissero. “#Cowboys CB Kelvin Joseph’s attorney told @dallasnews on Friday that Joseph was in the SUV but unarmed.”
While Joseph was under investigation for the murder of Ray, his attorney, Barry Sorrels released a statement on Friday. Sorrels maintained that Joseph did not shoot Ray, and that he was unarmed during the situation. Instead, Sorrels stated Joseph was just a passenger in the car where the shots that killed Ray came from.
“Kelvin Joseph did not shoot Cameron Ray,” Sorrels said. “Mr. Ray’s death is a tragedy, and Kelvin extends his deepest condolences for the family’s loss. On the night of March 17, Kelvin was unarmed and was not looking for violence. He found himself in a situation that escalated without his knowledge or consent.
“Along with condolences to the Ray family, Kelvin apologizes to the Dallas community for being anywhere near this type of incident. The investigation is ongoing, and we intend to respect the process.”
Additionally, the Cowboys also released their first public statement on the investigation that Joseph is involved in on Friday. The team is currently in contact with local law enforcement, and has alerted league offices about the matter.
“The Dallas Cowboys are aware of the tragic incident that occurred in Dallas on March 18,” the statement said, via NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. “First and foremost, our hearts go out to Mr. Ray’s family and loved ones. The organization is aware of Kelvin Joseph’s possible connection to this incident. We are in contact with Dallas law enforcement and have alerted the NFL office. We have no further comment at this time.”
Last season was Joseph’s rookie year with the Cowboys. He played in ten games with two starts, totaling 16 tackles, one tackle for loss, two passes defended, and one fumble recovery. The Cowboys selected Joseph with the 44th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Kentucky, and he also played college football at LSU previously.
