The Baltimore Ravens are making moves at the running back position. With J.K. Dobbins finally set to return to the team and come off the injured reserve, Baltimore is opting to waive veteran back Mike Davis. He appeared in eight games this season for the Ravens and totaled just 18 rushing yards on eight carries. Here was the report on the roster shakeup, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

“Ravens are waiving veteran RB Mike Davis, paving the way for the team to activate RB J.K. Dobbins off injured reserve today, per sources.”

There you have it. Dobbins activated, Davis waived. So it goes in the NFL.

For Davis, this may be the end of the line. If it is, well, it’s alright. Because he did the best he could for an eight-year running back who was picked in the fifth round. Don’t see many backs who can last that long. He actually had his best two seasons rather recently, going for 1,100 combined yards on bad teams in 2020 and 2021. But he really didn’t have many takers this offseason, thus landing in a banged-up Ravens RB room. Now that the bell cow, Dobbins, is back, no more need for Davis.

Speaking of Dobbins, it’s been a long road for him. He was one of several Baltimore running backs to miss all or most of last season. He was one of the ones who missed the whole thing after suffering a nasty knee injury in the preseason. Then, this season, he was late returning to the field, and re-aggravated the knee after a few weeks of playing. So he’s just now returning. Got to be careful with him in his return. Clearly, that knee is pretty ginger.
