The Jacksonville Jaguars have reached an agreement to trade cornerback Sidney Jones to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2022 sixth round pick, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The former second round pick in 2017 returns to the state where he starred in college.

The Jaguars later confirmed the trade via their Twitter account.

Jones spent three seasons with the Washington Huskies from 2014-16. He helped to lead them to a Pac-12 championship and College Football Playoff appearance in his final season.

He played for the Philadelphia Eagles for the first three seasons of his pro career before joining Jacksonville in 2020. The cornerback started six games for the Jaguars this past season, finishing with two interceptions and nine passes defended.

Jones won’t have much time to prepare for his first game with his new team. The Seahawks kickoff the season on Sept. 12 against the Indianapolis Colts.

The former Huskie joins a Seahawks team that has made the playoffs in eight of the past nine seasons. Seattle finished 12-4 in 2020 but lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the wild card game.

The defense was a main point of concern all last season, especially against the pass. The Seahawks allowed the second-most yards through the air in the NFL behind the Atlanta Falcons. They allowed the 11th-most total yards.

The trade for Sidney Jones will help to bolster a secondary in desperate need of some help. He was a part of a Washington defense that ranked 15th in the FBS in passing yards allowed per game in 2016.

With Russell Wilson at quarterback and D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett at receiver, the offense is already one of the best in the NFL. This moves adds more depth to the defense and helps Seattle take another step closer to its ultimate goal. Can Seattle get back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2014?
