Brewers players forced to take subway to play Mets after President Biden causes traffic jam

President Joe Biden inadvertently handed the New York Mets a helping hand in their matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this week.

In true Mets fashion though, Biden’s assist didn’t mean much, as the Brewers still found a way to find victory over the disappointing NL East franchise. The President visited New York earlier this week, causing gigantic traffic delays, forcing the Brewers to take the Subway to the game on Thursday.

“The Milwaukee Brewers unexpectedly had to take a Manhattan, New York subway to their game last night. Unfortunately for the Mets, The Brew Crew then took out their frustrations on them,” wrote Mike Gunzelman of Outkick. “Due to President Biden being in town and causing massive gridlock, some Brewers players had to get creative. There were street closures all over the city.

“After the first team bus pulled out of the Brewers Midtown, Manhattan hotel and was at a standstill for over 50 minutes after going just a few blocks, pitcher Corbin Burnes took matters into his own hands. ‘I was sitting there and we hadn’t moved in like 15 minutes. I turned around and was like, We’re going to have to take the damn train,’ he told reporters after last night’s 3-2 victory.”

Like true New Yorkers heading to Queens to watch the Amazins, the Brewers hopped on the 7 Line in their street clothes in an unmitigated effort to make the game on time. It worked out, and they went largely unrecognized by fellow passengers.

You can’t blame New Yorkers for not recognizing them either. Once you ride the Subway a couple times, you become immune to almost anything, and it’s not like it was Aaron Judge on their train.

Evidently, the Subway ended up being a smart move for Brewers players who took it, as they beat their team bus to Citi Field by over a half hour.

“The team bus didn’t roll in till 30 minutes after the subway had already pulled up,” added Gunzelman. “Even worse – some players like Devin Williams, Owen Miller and Jesse Winker sat in an Uber for over two hours, while the latter team bus took over and an hour and a half to get to the stadium – double the regular time.”

Every Mets fan knows public transportation will get you to the game sooner than driving. Now their opponents know it too. Even if President Biden threw a wrench into things.
