Despite levying a dirty hit in a second straight week, Denver Broncos defensive back Kareem Jackson will not be suspended by the NFL. That report comes from Tom Pelissero of NFL.com.

Jackson launched himself into Washington’s Logan Thomas on a touchdown catch, a hit many considered dirty. As a result of the play, he was ejected from the contest.

“Now official: No suspension for Broncos safety Kareem Jackson, per source,” Pelissero reported. “It’ll be reviewed under the standard process for a possible fine.”

In Week 1, Jackson was ejected after a hit to the head on Las Vegas Raiders receiver Jakobi Meyers. The NFL also hit him with a $14,819 fine for the incident.

Below is the hit Jackson delivered on Thomas during Sunday’s game against the Commanders.

Thomas remained on the field for awhile before finally making his way to the sidelines. He was evaluated further for a concussion.

Clearly, an ejection and fine didn’t get the point across to Jackson after Week 1. Since it happened two weeks in a row, many thought the Broncos defensive back would face a suspension. But, apparently, that won’t be the case for the veteran safety.

Jackson’s vicious hit on Meyers in the opener cost the receiver at least one game. Meyers did not play in Las Vegas’ Week 2 contest against the Buffalo Bills.

Jackson is in his 14th NFL season. He played for the Houston Texans from 2010-18 and has been a member of the Denver defense since 2019.

Denver sits at 0-2 through the first two weeks of the NFL regular season. The Broncos dropped Sunday’s game to Washington 35-33. They lost a 17-16 decision to the Raiders to open the year.

Two games, two ejections for Kareem Jackson

The NFL has attempted to make the game safer, eliminating as many head injuries as possible. But it doesn’t feel like it’s making much of a statement by not suspending Jackson.

Jackson has played in two games this season and been suspended from both for brutal hits. Doesn’t it seem wise to force him to sit for at least a game or two — especially when his play resulted in two players getting injured?

This feels like a weak move from the league, especially on the front of player safety. There will probably be some unhappy fans if Jackson is permitted to play in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins.
