The Brooklyn Nets star point guard Kyrie Irving is one of the most talked-about players in the NBA. And now and then, Irving likes to share his thoughts and feelings with the world around him. On a recent episode of the “I Am Athlete” podcast with Brandon Marshall, the former Duke Blue Devils guard shared more than just his thoughts and feelings about what happened with the Cleveland Cavaliers, providing a surprising new detail.

After three straight finals appearances in Cleveland with fellow superstar LeBron James, Irving requested a trade away from the team. His request soured things with some teammates, with James being one of them. But according to Irving, things would not have turned sour had it not been for one key element.

“They told me their future plans. I said, ‘Look, this isn’t for me.’ … Didn’t get a chance to talk to Bron before the media ended up coming out and saying that I asked for a trade,” said Irving.

You can see Irving’s full take in the video below.

The duo of Irving and James was able to bring the city of Cleveland its first-ever NBA championship. One year after arguably one of the greatest comebacks in finals history by coming back from being down 3-1 to the defending champs, the Golden State Warriors, the duo split up. James is now with the Los Angeles Lakers, and Irving is with the Brooklyn Nets after leaving the Boston Celtics.

Whatever the reason, the Cavaliers and their fan base are grateful that the duo made it work to bring at least one championship to the city.

Irving goes on hilarious rant towards trolls

Irving is known not to back down from criticism, and that was again the case when the Brooklyn Nets guard recently went live on Twitch. With his team now eliminated from the NBA playoffs, Irving was spending time at home playing video game and decided he wanted to stream.

That of course brought a multitude of trolls into the chat, who were making jokes at his expense for the early postseason exit. Irving quickly snapped back, mocking the comments for their unoriginality.

“Y’all can say the same jokes,” the guard quipped. “‘Oh, Kyrie what are you doing at home?’ That’s how y’all sound to me. ‘Oh, what are you doing at home? Are you going to Cancun? …What are you doing? Oh my God, go back to Cleveland. Boston hates you, oh my God.’ That’s how y’all sound to me, cockroaches.”
