If you’re Browns star Myles Garrett, you invest your money in what you love. He loves basketball and is a big fan of the Cavaliers. So on Wednesday, he officially became a minority owner of the NBA team.

The native Texan grew up playing football and basketball and running track. He starred in football at Texas A&M, then was the No. 1 player in the NFL draft back in 2017. Football pays the bills and then some, which is what Garrett is investing.

The Cavaliers announced that the defensive end was joining the team. And as part of the deal, Myles Garrett gets to be the Cavs brand ambassador. Garrett issued a statement to the media, explaining why he wanted to buy into the NBA.

“I have admired the Cavaliers organization’s hard work, tenacity and dedication to the community since my early days in Cleveland,” Myles Garrett said. “To have the opportunity to join this impressive and purpose-filled franchise, under Dan’s (Gilbert) leadership, is truly a dream come true.”

Dan Gilbert is the majority owner of the Cavs. In his statement, he called Garrett a “leader on and off the field.”

Gilbert added: “Myles has become a Cleveland icon and shares in our organization’s commitment to being a transformative force for good across the region. We are honored to welcome this long-time friend of the team as our new partner and investor.

“Myles’ passion and commitment to the city he loves will allow us to reach new communities and continue to build the successful future of this franchise.”

In making the annoucement, the Cavs shared a video of Garrett making plays on the football field and basketball court.

And by the way, Myles Garrett can still hoop. He’s got a monster dunk, one you’d expect from a player who excels at bull-rushing the quarterback. There’s no finesse to it, just speed and power. Garrett is good enough that he played in a celebrity basketball game in conjunction with the 2022 NBA All-Star game.

Plus, he talked the Browns into adding a basketball hoop at this summer’s training camp. Every football player needs a break, right?

He shared video of some of the best Browns dunks.

It’s definitely a good week for Myles Garrett. Before the Cavs made the announcement, Garrett learned he was the AFC Defensive Player of the Week thanks to his play in the Browns’ 39-38 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. In that game, Garrett put up some wild stats, with two sacks, two forced fumbles and a blocked field goal. No defensive player had done so in more than two decades.

And if you’re wondering how Garrett could afford to buy into the Cavs, with a value of $2 billion, the Browns superstar signed a $125 million contract in 2020. It goes through 2024.
