The Carolina Panthers, chasing win No. 3 of the season, lost quarterback Bryce Young in the first quarter against the Jaguars after the rookie took a scary hit on a fourth down attempt. Young stayed down on the field after the tackle but was conscious as he reached around to hold his back. As the Panthers defense took the field, the quarterback went to the blue medical tent for further evaluation.

The former Alabama star was able to return to the game after a defensive stand. Unfortunately, he took another sack to end the next series. Carolina trails Jacksonville 3-0 in the second quarter.

Going into Sunday’s matchup, the Panthers offensive line had given up 56 sacks. The lost yardage amounts to 433 yards this season.

The Jaguars are currently playing with their second-string quarterback, C.J. Beathard, with starter Trevor Lawrence out with an injury to his throwing shoulder.

Beathard is 2-10 in 12-career starts — all coming with the San Francisco 49ers from 2017-2020. He completed 11-of-15 passes for 94 yards and one touchdown in relief of Lawrence against Tampa Bay.

Jacksonville ruled out Lawrence, who has been diagnosed with a sprained right AC joint in his throwing shoulder, for this Sunday’s Week 17 home contest against the Carolina Panthers (2-13). Lawrence sustained the injury during this past Sunday’s 30-12 Week 16 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-7). The 24-year-old practiced in limited fashion Thursday, with head coach Doug Pederson calling him “day-to-day.”

Panthers cornerback Donte Jackson exited the game on Sunday later in the second quarter. Carolina is already thin at cornerback with CJ Henderson inactive.

Panthers Week 17 inactives

Cornerback Jaycee Horn, listed as questionable, tested out his injured toe during pregame warmups and is active. Fellow cornerback CJ Henderson is inactive as a result, with Shaquill Griffin getting the reserve spot in the lineup.

Offensive guard J.D. DiRenzo and cornerback AJ Parker were activated from the practice squad and will play versus Jacksonville.
