Everyone has their opinion when it comes to the top quarterback in the NFL. Still, based on every resume, it’s hard to not lean in the direction of Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs. Even so, Carson Palmer doesn’t agree as he is happy to take one of the league’s other incredibly bright stars.

In an appearance on The QB Room hosted by Jordan Palmer, Palmer dubbed Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals as the best quarterback in the NFL. He recognizes Mahomes but mentioned Burrow’s consistency and sound game overall as the reason why he chooses him.

“I think Joe is the best quarterback in the league,” Palmer said. “I know Patrick is phenomenal but I just think Joe’s more consistent. He’s more consistent. He’s more accountable to run the system and the play that’s called. And not feel like, ‘Well, he didn’t win last time and get open for me. I’m gonna do it with my feet’. And then before you know it? You’re sacked for a four-yard loss because you tried to make two or three guys miss.”

“Joe is just — talk about not having a weakness,” said Palmer. “Mentally strong, physically tough, accurate, can throw it far enough, fast enough, gets the ball out quick. And then he can actually do a lot with his legs.”

Burrow is coming off his third season in the NFL where he earned his first Pro Bowl appearance. He threw for a career-best 35 touchdowns on 414 completions. In total, he accumulated 4,475 yards on a 68.3% completion percentage.

All that production earned Burrow a top-five finish in the MVP race. It also led the Bengals to their second straight AFC Championship against the Chiefs where, unlike last year when he was able to get them to Super Bowl LVI, Mahomes and company bested them.

Again, it’s safe to say most people would pick Mahomes in this conversation. He has the pair of Super Bowls, all kinds of accolades, and every stat you could think of to suggest so. He also has the resume that a lot of his younger competition hasn’t accumulated yet. Still, if you weren’t going to go with him, Palmer isn’t far off with his argument for Burrow as the NFL’s best QB1.
