In honor of Father’s Day today, Chase Elliott looked back on his dad’s late-career tenure with Evernham Motorsports. While Bill Elliott did most of his winning in NASCAR in the 1980s and 90s, he had a resurgence in the 2000s in the No. 9 with Evernham. That’s where Chase learned to love racing.

With most of Bill’s accomplishments behind him by the time Chase Elliott was able to be a part of it, those last few years were precious. It was a time when the father-son duo was able to bask in the glories and wins, even if they came far and few between in that last stint for Bill.

There is no doubt that Chase carries his dad’s legacy with him. Both are Cup Series champions. Both are the Most Popular Driver of their era. Chase took the time to talk about those years in a video for NASCAR.

Together, Chase and Bill Elliott have 62 wins in the NASCAR Cup Series. The last win for Bill came in 2003 at Rockingham Speedway. It was that 2002 season that Chase remembers so fondly. Bill was able to come away with back-to-back wins at Pocono and at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

This season could be a very memorable one for Chase if he is able to earn his way into the playoffs and pull off a deep run. After all he has been through, it would be an amazing comeback.

Chase Elliott needs to refocus

While he ran well at Sonoma Raceway, Chase Elliott could use a bit of a refocus after this off week. Even though he’s missed multiple weeks with injury and a week to suspension for on-track behavior, Elliott could use this break to recharge and get his mind right going into the final stretch of the regular season.

Elliott is in a position now where he has to win. Before his one-week suspension after Charlotte, he had a chance to point his way into the postseason. Now, it is a checkered flag or bust. But there is good news for Elliott as the season returns from the break.

When the Cup Series returns next week, they will be racing the Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway. This is a race track that Elliott won a year ago. So, he should feel good going into the race about his chances.

If not at Nashville, there are only nine other races to pick up that win and get into the playoffs. NASCAR definitely doesn’t want him to miss out on the postseason, imagine what that would do for ratings.
