Former Florida State Seminoles defensive tackle Eddie Goldman is calling it a career. According to NFL insider Ian Rapaport, Goldman, who recently signed with the Atlanta Falcons, has decided to retire.

“Veteran DT Eddie Goldman, who recently signed with the #Falcons, has informed the team that he’s retiring instead, a source said. The former Bears standout, who is 28, played six seasons, plus the opt-out year in 2020,” wrote Rapoport via Twitter.

Goldman elected to sign with the Falcons after spending the first seven years of his career in Chicago; he sat out the 2020 season because of health concerns about the COVID-19 outbreak. The Bears selected him in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft and extended him to the tune four-years $42 million after the first three years. However, following his year away from football, in 2020, Goldman had one of his worst seasons as a pro, prompting a split between him and the Bears. And now Goldman plans to part ways with the NFL altogether.

Florida State offers Malik Feaster

Florida State is attempting to recruit a transfer away from Jacksonville State by making an offer to defensive back Malik Feaster. The Seminoles extended an offer for the former ASUN conference senior, which Feaster himself shared news of on his social media. As of now, Feaster has not officially accepted the offer and joined Florida State, but their interest certainly indicates the talent that Feaster brings with him.

Feaster entered the transfer portal on July 13, according to the On3 Transfer Portal Wire, and it didn’t take long to receive an offer from a Power Five conference. Feaster is among a handful of defensive backs still available that recently entered the transfer portal — including freshman Fenley Graham from Florida who entered the portal on June 27 and UCF’s Marco Domio who entered the portal on June 24.

The Jacksonville State cornerback saw starting action as early as his freshman season in 2018, starting 12 out of 25 possible games in his first two seasons. As a junior, Feaster started the first four games of the year before suffering a season-ending injury that set him back heading into what would be his final year with the Gamecocks.
