The drama between Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns is finally over, with the quarterback getting traded to the Carolina Panthers. While there may be some things he’s excited to leave behind in Cleveland, there’s at least one thing Mayfield wanted to continue as he moved to Carolina — his Progressive commercials.

Mayfield confirmed his “at home with Baker Mayfield” ads with the insurance company were no longer going to happen, despite his best effort. The idea of doing a commercial surrounding his move from Cleveland to Carolina was thrown out there but never came to fruition.

An end of an era when it comes to commercials during the NFL season is truly here, as some of the funniest on television will no longer air.

Mayfield and Progressive teamed up to make a series of commercials, joking about how FirstEnergy Stadium was his actual home. Plenty of other people starred, including his wife, Emily Wilkinson, and starting offensive lineman Jedrick Wills. Progressive also showed Mayfield doing regular household chores, with some of the best involving the quarterback doing the dishes and mowing the lawn.

Other companies, such as Hulu, have seen Mayfield act to promote their company. The Nissan Heisman House brings back the former Oklahoma Heisman winner as well, being one of the livelier characters in their reoccurring advertisements.

Brady Quinn defends Baker Mayfield after leaving Cleveland

Baker Mayfield’s exit from Cleveland was a messy one, to say the least. After his worst NFL season due to injuries, the Browns organization and fanbase quickly soured on their former No. 1 pick. This led to their trade for Deshaun Watson and to signing him to a five yer, $230 million contract. Baker’s breakup with the Browns was official at that point as he awaited a trade away from the franchise.

That came last week when the Carolina Panther’s acquired Mayfield for a conditional fifth-round pick in 2024. That should have been the not-so-happy ending for everyone involved. That wasn’t the case, though, when the Browns hurled one last insult out the door. In an article on The Athletic, Jason Lloyd wrote that the franchise viewed Mayfield as “childish and immature”.

For former Browns QB Brady Quinn, that was a step too far from the organization. Quinn shared his thoughts on Monday’s episode of his ‘2 Pros and a Cup of Joe‘ show on Fox Sports Radio. He says the comments make the franchise look just as, if not more, immature than Mayfield ever had.

“I’m on the side of Baker here,” said Brady Quinn. “If you’re gonna call him being immature, it almost seems like whether it’s Jimmy Haslam, whoever else is behind it leaking this stuff out, that’s more of the immature move here.”
