Aaron Rodgers‘ injury could be the opportunity Colin Kaepernick needs to get back into the NFL.

At least, that’s what the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback’s agent believes. According to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, he’s reached out to Kaepernick’s agent, and there’s interest in playing in New York.

Of course, the Jets would have to have interest in Kaepernick for it all to work, and that remains to be seen. But if the opportunity presents itself, it looks like the NFL veteran would take it.

“I just spoke with Colin Kaepernick, who tells me his agent has reached out to the #Jets about his desire to make an NFL return,” tweeted Schultz. “Kaepernick remains on the West Coast working out.”

The last time Kaepernick suited up for an NFL squad was 2016, so it’s been a while since he’s been in a competitive football game. Whether he’s been away from the game for too long or not remains to be seen, as he’s never received another shot from a team since his national anthem stance that spawned a movement.

Alas, the interest in playing for New York stems from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealing on Tuesday that Aaron Rodgers officially suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.

“An MRI confirmed the #Jets’ fears: Four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers suffered a complete tear of his left Achilles tendon Monday night, per sources,” tweeted Pelissero.

The injury occurred after Bills edge rusher Leonard Floyd sacked Rodgers to the ground. He went into the blue medical tent after being helped off the field, following throwing just one pass in his Jets debut. He went back to the locker room on a cart and was out for the remainder of the game.

Afterwards, the former NFL MVP was wearing a boot on his left foot. Rodgers underwent x-rays on his ankle which were negative, but an MRI has confirmed the injury to his Achilles.

The Jets will turn the keys back over to Zach Wilson, who helped lead the comeback on Monday Night Football, while reaching out to veteran free-agent quarterbacks. New York found victory last night, but there’s a pit in every Jets fan’s stomach on Tuesday, as their superstar quarterback won’t be suiting up again in 2023.

Will Colin Kaepernick get his long-awaited shot at a return in New York? It remains to be seen, but he’s putting his name in the hat as an option. Whether the Jets make the call or not is the question.
