Colin Kaepernick hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2016, but that’s not stopping the quarterback from continuing to push for a return. He’s still as determined as ever to earn a roster spot.

Despite a successful six-year run with the San Francisco 49ers, teams backed away from Kaepernick after he kneeled during the national anthem during games. Though he’s participated in different workouts over the years, he still hasn’t landed with a team.

It hasn’t kept him from trying to get back in the league.

“I’m going to keep pushing,” Kaepernick said, per Sports Illustrated. “I’m going to keep fighting for it because I know I can step on the field and play. Every workout, every opportunity I’ve had to show that, the feedback has always been positive. Everything from, ‘He’s still an elite player,’ to ‘The workout was great; it was better than expected.’

“When I had my workout with the Raiders last year, even training with guys, there’s a decent amount of people who may have forgotten what I was capable of doing on the field, so any chance to be able to remind people of what I can do out there, I look forward to and embrace, and I look forward to the day that I get to step on the field and show people what I can do.”

We’ll see if Kaepernick, 35, can land with a team in the NFL sometime in the near future.

Colin Kaepernick’s career numbers

During his six-year career with the 49ers, Kaepernick led the team to an NFC Championship Game and a Super Bowl appearance. But from 2014 on, his record as a starting quarterback declined.

San Francisco posted just an 11-24 record with Kaepernick under center from 2014-16, prompting the Niners to make a switch.

In six years with the Niners, Kaepernick threw for 12,271 yards and 72 touchdowns with 30 interceptions. He also accumulated 2,300 yards on the ground and scored an additional 13 rushing touchdowns.

The 49ers selected Kaepernick in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He was a star at Nevada, winning the WAC Offensive Player of the Year award twice (2008, 2010) in three seasons.
