UFC superstar Conor McGregor won’t be charged with sexual assault stemming from an incident over the summer during the NBA Finals when he was present for a Miami Heat game.

The Miami Police Department provided a statement to ESPN. It revealed the case against McGregor would be closed.

“The State Attorney’s Office will not go forward with any charges and the case will be closed,” the statement read.

McGregor’s attorney also provided a statement to TMZ Sports.

“On behalf of my client, his family and his fans we are pleased this is now over,” Barbara Llanes said.

TMZ initially acquired some demand letters from the accuser’s attorney Ariel Mitchell, who wrote that McGregor “violently” sexually assaulted a woman inside a men’s restroom just after the conclusion of the game.

Per TMZ, security members of the NBA and Miami Heat sequestered the woman into the bathroom before McGregor committed the alleged assault.

“In the letters, Mitchell claims that NBA and Heat security helped separate the woman from her friend … and then forced her into a restroom that McGregor and his security guard were already inside of.”

The letters also say: “Security refused to let [the woman] exit or allow anyone else, including her friend, inside the bathroom.” After she was inside, per the letters, McGregor came out from a handicapped stall and “shoved his tongue in the victim’s mouth and aggressively kissed her.”

McGregor’s attorney maintained her client’s innocence after video was released back in the summer.

“While the claimant’s story has changed yet again,” Barbara R. Llanes said in a statement, “Our account of the evening has never changed. This video only reinforces our position. We look forward to the swift conclusion of the investigation.”

As far as what’s next for McGregor, he recently submitted paperwork to USADA to reenter the drug testing pool, indicating his long awaited return to the UFC octagon. It’s anticipated he’ll fight Michael Chandler, a top UFC lightweight contender.

Since his lightweight title win in 2016, McGregor is 1-3 in the UFC over the course of seven years. He lost a title fight to Khabib Nurmagomedov, knocked out Donald Cerrone in a welterweight bout and lost two fights to Dustin Poirier in 2021.

McGregor called out Justin Gaethje and Nate Diaz this summer, saying he wanted the BMF belt won by Gaethje and wanted to put it on the line against Diaz after he wins it.
