The Atlanta Falcons recently re-signed versatile offensive weapon Cordarrelle Patterson to a new contract. Two days later, the Falcons traded his quarterback, Matt Ryan. After news broke of Atlanta’s trade of Ryan, Patterson had a hilarious reaction on his personal Twitter account.

Patterson does it all for the Falcons on offense. And now, he jokes that it’s time for him to start warming his arm up.

Last season was Patterson’s first with the Falcons. He played a pivotal role on offense, with 618 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns, and 52 receptions for 548 yards and five more touchdowns. He is a true gadget player that can line up all over the field. He also returned 18 kicks for 434 yards, averaging over 24 yards per return.

The Falcons were in on now Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson prior to his trade earlier this week. With Atlanta being interested in Watson, Ryan’s future came into question. Ultimately, the Falcons opted to move on from their long-time quarterback, trading him to the Indianapolis Colts for a third round pick in the NFL Draft.

Patterson should have a huge role with the Falcons next season

With Ryan now with the Colts and Calvin Ridley’s year long suspension, things are looking bleak for the Falcons on offense. Receiver Russell Gage also departed during free agency, as did tight end Hayden Hurst. As things currently stand, the Falcons have three receivers under contract next season: Olamide Zaccheaus, Frank Darby, and Austin Trammell. At running back, the Falcons have Mike Davis, Caleb Huntley, and now Damien Williams, in addition to Patterson.

The Falcons also hold the eighth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. With so many needs on both sides of the ball, the Falcons will have a ton of options on who to select. Right now, Felipe Franks is the only quarterback under contract in Atlanta. Josh Rosen is also a restricted free agent.

Rookies like Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis will likely be available for the Falcons in the draft, as will other options in free agency and through trades. But Patterson will undoubtedly be ready for anything…
