A new member of the Dallas Cowboys franchise, former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver James Washington has already suffered a setback with his new team. His left foot was seen in a walking boot during Wednesday’s OTA practice, per a picture from practice tweeted by Jon Machota–the Dallas Cowboys reporter for The Athletic.

While neither Washington nor the Cowboys would confirm what injury he was dealing with today, multiple reports said he’s dealing with tendonitis.

“I really just went home one night after working out and it didn’t feel quite right,” Washington told Mike Fisher of SI.com. “It’s nothing serious, more precautionary.”

While his numbers the last four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers have nowhere near matched his production in college–Washington is an exciting pickup for the Dallas Cowboys and it’ll be interesting to watch him catches passes from Dak Prescott. Especially since a number of the Dallas receivers have moved elsewhere this offseason–Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns and Cedrick Wilson to the Miami Dolphins.

There’s no question this year is the best opportunity for a breakout year for Washington that he’s had thus far in his NFL career. The past four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers–the former Oklahoma State star hauled in a total of 114 catches for 1,629 receiving yards, while bringing in 11 touchdowns. Washington’s best season came in 2019, when he caught 44 catches for 735 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Washington enjoyed a remarkably prolific career with Oklahoma State

While at Oklahoma State, Washington enjoyed one of the most decorated careers of any receiver in Big 12 history. His 4,472 career receiving yards set a new school record and also ranked second in Big 12 history. The Stamford, Texas native reeled in 39 career touchdowns while suiting up for the Cowboys–becoming the active FBS leader in the stat category in 2017. Washington finished with three seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards at Oklahoma State. The only other player to do that in the Cowboys’ program history was Rashaun Woods.
