Dak Prescott wants the Dallas Cowboys to do whatever it takes to keep Zack Martin happy. The quarterback seemed to take his teammate’s side amid an ongoing contract dispute.

Martin, an All-Pro offensive lineman, is holding out of training camp as contract disagreements continue. The possibility of his absence from the team during the regular season could be costly. It seems that Prescott knows that.

When asked about his thoughts on the situation, the quarterback responded by saying, “Pay the man,” per David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.

Martin has spent his entire career with the Cowboys, dating back to 2014. He was selected in the first round with the 16th overall pick and has remained in Dallas since.

All he’s done in his career is found success. The offensive lineman has earned eight trips to the Pro Bowl and had been a staple for the Cowboys in the trenches. Over the course of his nine seasons in the league, Martin has started in 137 career games.

Head coach Mike McCarthy took a more neutral approach when asked about Martin’s situation. However, he sounds like someone who also supports the offensive lineman.

“My father always told me, and I think it’s true, you never talk about another man’s money, and most importantly, never talk about your own,” McCarthy said, via Jon Machota. “It’s business, and Zack needs to focus on that. We all respect that. We don’t feel any differently about him. He’s always going to be a leader of our football team. But this is a business situation.”

Jerry Jones comments on Zack Martin’s contract situation

Anytime something happens with the Cowboys, you’re going to get thoughts from team owner Jerry Jones. Even if he doesn’t have that much to say.

Jones was asked about the situation involving the eight-time Pro Bowl offensive guard. But Jones was reluctant to provide too much information.

“Just not going to discuss anything about any of our players’ agreements,” Jones said. “We certainly have great communication with, frankly, everybody. Not any surprises at all but we won’t be talking the business aspect of this thing.”

Jones would not answer whether he “expected” Martin back at some point for training camp, but he added he isn’t “concerned.”

“I don’t want to get into my expectations, we’ve got everything as we start camp today, there’s nothing to concern me with contractual situations,” he said.
