The Dallas Cowboys is going to be without a quarterback for a few weeks, as Dak Prescott suffered a thumb injury late in the Sunday Night Football game vs. Tampa Bay. While the original thought was around eight weeks, Jerry Jones said Prescott will not be put on IR and possibly return in just four games.

Until then, Cooper Rush is going to be the starter. However, legendary wide receiver Drew Pearson has a couple of other ideas. He suggested the Cowboys call former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and former San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick.

“What they got to do is pull out all stops,” Pearson said in an interview with TMZ. “Call Cam. Call Kaepernick.”

Newton was the starter for Carolina last season but was eventually replaced by Sam Darnold for head coach Matt Rhule. In eight appearances, Newton completed 54.8% of his throws for 684 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions.

As for Kaepernick, he has not appeared in an NFL game since the 2016 season. There have been a few workouts and attempts to get back into the league but nothing has fully come to fruition.

Dallas Cowboys need somebody with game experience according to Pearson

Pearson says Dallas can’t throw somebody out there who doesn’t have game experience. He wants somebody who has been in the big moments in the NFL and who “knows how to be a starting quarterback.”

“We got to have somebody there with some experience, some game experience,” Pearson said. “I’m not talking about coming in and mopping up for somebody after the game’s already won or already lost. I’m talking about somebody that’s been there, been in the big time, knows how to be a starting quarterback in the National Football League.”

Rush, who will likely be the starter moving forward for the Cowboys, has played in 11 career games. Only one has been a start, with it occurring last season to replace an injured Prescott. He led Dallas to a win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football.

Even so, Pearson seemingly does not seem content with Rush taking the starting snaps. He has called upon two guys who are currently free agents and could be signed by the Cowboys. Kaepernick and Newton have been popular over the years and are once again be called upon by people involved with NFL franchises.
