The 8-3 Dallas Cowboys finding success offensively, as well as defensively, has quarterback Dak Prescott in serious conversation for league MVP this season. With 1,847 yards, 18 touchdown passes and two interceptions in the last six games, Prescott is on a run few Cowboys fans have seen from one of their franchise quarterbacks.

Although it would be an honor, the former fourth-rounder’s eyes are fully focused on the larger prize at stake – the Lombardi Trophy.

“It means I’m playing well. Simple as that. Not really (that important),” Prescott told reporters on Monday. “I’m about one goal and it’s a big team goal and I know if my name’s in there that means we’re playing well, so that’s great. But at the end of the day, we’re just trying to build.

“I mean, being eight years into this thing, it’s about building and building and making sure we’re getting better and better each and every week and getting hot right when we need to be.”

Prescott tied for the league-lead in interceptions last season with 15 and that stat dominated the offseason conversation surrounding the QB. Now, he has just six interceptions through 11 games and a career-high completion percentage of 70%. The improvement didn’t come easily and required a revamp of the supporting cast around him – namely Kellen Moore and Doug Nussmeier – but it’s been effective.

Prescott flips the narrative from 2022 season

“It gives credit to everything around this team, the organization, the coaches, people just handling their business, being prepared,” Prescott said. “Our process has been amazing throughout this season, just when the game plan comes in, how early it gets in, and the process we go through after that to be ready to call a game. The play-caller’s purpose is clear and precise on everything.

“Just really, the challenge is just staying true to that process, not getting ahead, not getting overwhelmed, understanding that what I say to myself is I haven’t done shit, you know what I mean. Regular-season numbers are great, but getting wins, that’s what’s most important.”

The Cowboys quarterback also linked his success this season to his new-found “dad strength.” Prescott will welcome his first child, a baby girl, with his girlfriend, Sarah Jane Ramos, within the next few months. The QB told reporters on Monday that they already have a name in mind for their daughter, with some speculating he will honor his mother, Peggy, who passed away from cancer in 2013.

“Super exciting, it really is … I’m blessed. Thankful,” Prescott said Monday. “Everyone knows what my mom means to me. Being able to raise a little girl, I’m excited for the challenges. It’s not going to be easy, especially being my daughter — or being a Prescott — but I’m looking forward to every bit about it.”
