The Hill family lost a member of their family. Janet Hill, the wife of former great Dallas Cowboys running back Calvin Hill, and the mother of NBA star Grant Hill, passed away recently. Seeing as the Hill family was a part of the Dallas community for quite some time, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones released a statement addressing Janet’s passing.

Here was that statement via the Cowboys team website:

“We are so saddened to learn of the passing of Janet Hill. First and foremost, she was a wonderful grandmother, mother, wife, and a cherished member of the Dallas Cowboys Family. Janet was also a remarkable leader and role model for many while making an indelible impact on those she knew and worked with. She uniquely served and benefited our community and our country in very special ways over the course of her amazing life journey. Our prayers are with Calvin, Grant, the entire Hill family and so many others who were touched and enriched by having Janet in their lives, like we did.”

A touching tribute from Jones to the Hill family.

For some background, Hill’s husband, Calvin, arrived in Dallas in 1969. Where he proceeded to win the NFL’s Rookie of the Year award. Because he started all 13 games and rushing for 942 yards and eight touchdowns. Hill wound up playing for Dallas for another five years afterwards. He broke 1,000 yards in two seasons while starting every game he played in from 1972 to 1974.

Hill then moved on from Dallas, but didn’t find nearly as much success at his new homes. He made a two-year stop in Washington as a backup. Then spent his last four seasons in Cleveland, where he played a big role in two of them. But in his final two years, 1980 and ’81, Hill had just five total carries.

So a former Dallas Cowboys great at the RB position. Prayers to him, his son Grant, and the rest of the Hill family. RIP Janet Hill
