Jerry Jones has strong opinions about the football played in North Texas. He has been on the record multiple times saying the Cowboys would win multiple Super Bowls if the team had exclusive rights to local players. After all, AT&T Stadium does host the UIL state championship games every December.

Three to four years later, once they are done with college, Jones has the opportunity to draft the DFW players. To get a better look, the Cowboys will be hosting “Dallas Day” on Friday, giving NFL Draft prospects from the local area to work out at The Star in Frisco.

Among those in attendance will be Oklahoma wide receiver, Marvin Mims. A Texas High School Football star at Frisco Lone Star, Mims will be the biggest name in attendance according to Bobby Belt of 105.3 The Fan. Three stars from the TCU College Football Playoff team will work out in front of America’s Team as well.

Mims spent three seasons in Norman and is hoping to be the latest wide receiver from the program to blossom in the NFL. He played in all 13 games this season for Oklahoma, recording his first 1,000-yard season on just 54 receptions. The touchdown numbers were a tad low at six but he is destined to be a real weapon in the league.

Dallas Cowboys have recent history of drafting DFW natives

At the very least, Jones is true to his words about DFW high school talent. Two out of the last three first-round picks for Dallas have come from the area but ironically, both attended college in the state of Oklahoma.

Like Mims, CeeDee Lamb headed north to play for the Oklahoma Sooners but is originally from Richardson. He was a four-star recruit and one of the few guys head coach Lincoln Riley produced during his time in Norman. The Cowboys selected him at No. 17 overall and since then, has turned into the franchise’s top receiver.

Offensive lineman Tyler Smith was the first name picked by Dallas last season and is from the west side of the Metroplex, attending North Crowley High School in Fort Worth. While there were some questions about the selection at the time, the former Tulsa player has blossomed into a great player at both left tackle and left guard.
