The loss of rookie linebacker DeMarvion Overshown potentially for the season was the headline out of the Cowboys’ defeat at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night but there were several more injuries of note that could impact the team moving forward.

On top of Overshown, the Cowboys lost offensive lineman Matt Waletzko to a shoulder subluxation. The young second-stringer missed all but three injuries due to a similar injury last season. It’s unclear at this time how long Dallas could miss Waletzko, a 2022 fifth-round selection. According to DallasCowboys.com, the shoulder the lineman hurt on Saturday is thought to be the opposite arm from last season’s injury.

Backup rookie tight end John Stephens Jr. also suffered an injury versus the Seahawks. He’s getting testing, along with Overshown, on a knee injury.

The 6-foot-5 target spent three seasons at TCU out of high school before transferring back to Louisiana-Lafayette for his final season. Though his size gave him an advantage when it came to potentially securing a roster spot for this season, the injury could derail his rookie year.

The fourth injury of the game was to safety Sheldrick Redwine. The former fourth-round pick out of Miami suffered a hamstring injury and exited after making two tackles on Saturday night. Redwine last appeared in a regular season game in 2021 while playing for the Miami Dolphins. He started his career with the Cleveland Browns.

Cowboys fear ACL tear for DeMarvion Overshown

The Cowboys have growing concern that rookie linebacker DeMarvion Overshown suffered a torn ACL during the 22-14 preseason defeat to the Seattle Seahawks Saturday.

Overshown will undergo an MRI to confirm the severity of the knee injury, but it appears the Cowboys are expecting to be without the talented third-round pick out of Texas for all of 2023. The injury occurred with just under eight minutes remaining in the first quarter, when Overshown made a tackle on Seahawks rookie tailback Zach Charbonnet.

Overshown appeared to be fine initially, before grabbing his left knee in pain. He was able to walk off the field on his own power, eventually being carted off to the locker room.

Head coach Mike McCarthy addressed Overshown’s injury after the game.

“You just say your prayers and hopefully the imaging points in the right direction. He’s had an incredible camp,” McCarthy said, via Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “We talked about him seems like almost ever other day. I just hope he’s okay.”

McCarthy added the team had big plans for Overshown in his rookie season, given the promise he’s shown throughout training camp and the preseason.

“Absolutely. He was climbing. He was climbing the charts,” McCarthy said. “… Showed up right away in the offseason program, just his ability to fly around. Really has excellent command. So just hopeful. See how tomorrow goes.”
