The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly hiring Mike Solari to replace Joe Philbin as the offensive line coach, according to ESPN reporter Todd Archer. Solari, who has been coaching at various levels since the late 70s, was most recently the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive line coach. The Seahawks gave him the axe in February of 2022 after four seasons.

The 68-year-old coached for the Cowboys under Tom Landry from 1987-1988 as assistant offensive line coach and special teams coach.

According to Archer, Solari also nearly joined the Cowboys staff in 2018 but Jason Garrett hired Paul Alexander instead.

He has one Super Bowl under his belt. He was with the San Francisco 49ers in 1995 as tight ends coach and assistant offensive line coach when they won Super Bowl XXIX.

On top of his familiarity with the Cowboys, Solari also has a history with head coach Mike McCarthy. He was McCarthy’s assistant offensive line coach in Green Bay in 2015. Following his stint with the Packers, Solari coached for the New York Giants in 2016-2017.

Former OL coach Joe Philbin was one of eight coaches that parted ways with the team after the playoff loss to the 49ers. His contract was up and the Cowboys opted not to renew for another season.

With Solari reportedly on board, Dallas and Mike McCarthy still have quite a few roles left to fill. They still need an offensive coordinator, although McCarthy will call plays, a quarterbacks coach, running backs coach and several assistants.
