The Dallas Cowboys look like they’ll be in better shape this week against the Jets than they were in Week 1 against the Giants. The Friday injury report revealed that multiple players are on the mend, including right guard Zack Martin.

Head coach Mike McCarthy said Martin “took every rep today” and is expected to practice Saturday as well. It’s a very positive sign in terms of his status for Sunday’s game against the Jets.

Although Martin appears good to go, the Cowboys will likely miss Tyler Smith – he’s listed as doubtful. Team owner Jerry Jones revealed on 105.3 The Fan on Friday that Smith is the least likely to play of all the banged-up players. Safety Donovan Wilson is also doubtful due to his calf injury, however, he donned full pads for the first time this week.

While Martin took all the reps, veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks worked off to the side on Friday. He suffered an MCL sprain this week but, according to Jerry Jones, the team doesn’t need him practicing in order for him to play on Sunday. He’s questionable and a game-time decision at this point.

For the Jets, every player on the injury report is questionable, though the three who were able to participate fully, Breece Hall (knee), right tackle Mekhi Becton (knee) and left tackle Duane Brown (shoulder), all played with their injuries last week.

McCarthy settles turf vs. grass debate

Grass has never been a hotter topic. After Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles earlier this week, many people around the league have voiced concern surrounding turf fields. On Thursday, a few Dallas Cowboys stars gave their opinions.

Dak Prescott says he’s ‘100% grass,’ while CeeDee Lamb stated he’s ‘grass all of time,’” Cowboys writer Patrik Walker wrote. “Micah Parsons said he doesn’t care, he’d ‘play on concrete, and has.’ When told that Parsons would play on concrete, Dak laughed and said… ‘He’s young.’”

The trio’s opinions are intriguing concerning their home field at AT&T Stadium is turf.

On Friday, Mike McCarthy not so subtly hinted at his preference, saying: “We practice on the grass every single day.”
