The Dallas Cowboys will look to begin their season 2-0 this Sunday against the New York Jets, who are coming off an emotional Week 1 victory after the season-ending injury to quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The Cowboys expect to be a healthy bunch heading into Week 2, with just four players on the Wednesday injury report, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.

Veteran wideout Brandin Cooks (knee) is the newest addition to the list, joining left tackle Tyron Smith (ankle), guard Tyler Smith (hamstring) and safety Donovan Wilson (calf). Cooks, Wilson and Tyler Smith didn’t participate in practice, while Tyron Smith was a full participant.

Head coach Mike McCarthy said that Cooks has a chance to be out there Sunday at AT&T Stadium.

“He’s doing OK,” McCarthy said Wednesday of Cooks. “I think he’s gonna try to do a little bit tomorrow. He’s got a chance [to play Sunday].”

As for Wilson and Tyler Smith, who each didn’t suit up in the 40-0 Week 1 victory over the New York Giants this past Sunday, McCarthy said that Wilson is further along at the moment than Smith.

“I know Dono had a big workout today,” McCarthy said. “I know Tyler is doing really well. He’s pushing to play. [On Thursday], hopefully we can get them involved. I know Dono is a little further ahead than Tyler right now. They’ll both work with the rehab group today.”

Wilson started every game in 2022, recording 101 tackles (77 solo), 5.0 sacks and two forced fumbles. An MRI confirmed last week that Smith, the 2022 first-round pick out of Tulsa, suffered a hamstring strain. He started all 17 games as a rookie, performing admirably. The 22-year-old earned a 71.4 overall grade and allowed six sacks in 1,144 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

Cowboys await Aaron Rodgers-less Jets

With Rodgers sidelined after suffering a torn Achilles, the Cowboys’ stout defense will matchup against third-year quarterback Zach Wilson. Though benched last season for poor play, the 2021 second overall pick did just enough to lead the Jets to a 22-16 victory over the Buffalo Bills on “Monday Night Football.”

Given the weapons the Jets have at the skill positions and on defense, team owner Jerry Jones knows Dallas will have its hands full.

“That shows the type of team they got,” Jones said Tuesday. “And they’re loaded across the board. This will be a tough game one way or the other.”
