Tuesday night was an embarrassing night for the Dallas Stars and for multiple reasons. None more so than the actions of fans at the American Airlines Center. As the team struggled on the ice in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals, debris was thrown onto the ice, expediting the end of the second period.

Dallas has since apologized for the fans’ actions. Stars president and CEO Brad Alberts released a statement on Wednesday morning on the matter, sending a message to both the Las Vegas Golden Knights and the NHL.

“On behalf of the Dallas Stars organization, I would like to apologize to the Vegas Golden Knights and the National Hockey League for the actions of our spectators at last night’s game,” the statement said. “Their actions were unacceptable and put the safety of the players and fans at risk.

“We take pride in providing the best experience for everyone who enters our arena. The actions of the individuals do not reflect our great city, organization, and loyal fan base.”

Dallas fans will have the opportunity to put on a good showing on Thursday for what could be the Stars’ final home game of the season. Even if the game plays out poorly, those involved with the organization will be hoping actions from the spectators in the stands are better.

Dallas Stars get crushed by Vegas Golden Knights, down 3-0 in series

Unless somebody has secured a hat trick, fans throwing items onto the ice is never acceptable. Frustrations were boiling over for Stars fans though as Game 3 against Vegas did not go their way from the beginning.

Things kicked off with captain Jamie Benn taking a five minute game misconduct penalty during his first shift of the night. During an interaction with Mark Stone, Benn cross checked the Golden Knights’ captain around the head and was kicked out of the game.

Vegas took full advantage, scoring a goal on the five minute major but that was just the tip of the iceberg. By the time the horn sounded to end the first period, VGK found itself up 3-0 and in total control. Dallas has nothing going for them and wound up losing 4-0.

Game 4 will take place on Thursday, where many are expecting the sweep to be completed. Even if the Stars get a win, completely coming back from a 3-0 series deficit seems impossible at the moment.
