Report: Giants QB Daniel Jones switches agents, wants as much as $45 million per year in new contract
Daniel Jones reportedly switched agents, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. The New York Giants quarterback could want a massive new contract with the team.
Jones reportedly wants $45 million a year in a new deal with the Giants, more than previously speculated. The Giants quarterback had the best year of his career in New York and went 1-1 in the playoffs.
While new head coach Brian Daboll certainly unlocked more potential in Jones, Florio explained how the Giants could have avoided this type of situation, at least for now.
“Jones wants more than the Giants have offered,” Florio wrote. “Possibly as much as $45 million per year, or more. The Giants could respond by simply applying the franchise tag to Jones. The non-exclusive level would cost them $32.416 million, and it would allow him to try to sign with another team — if that team is willing to give up a pair of first-round picks to get him.

In his fourth season, Jones threw for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns, five interceptions, a 67.2% completion percentage, 708 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.
In his career, Jones has 11,603 yards, 60 touchdowns, 34 interceptions, a 64% completion percentage, 1,708 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.
Giants owner John Mara said last March Jones still had strong support and the Giants did not do enough to surround him with talent.
But now, the Giants have decisions to make with Jones and running back Saquon Barkley. Both star players are due for new deals with the team.
A franchise tag would be the logical option for one of them and it seems like Jones is the likely candidate at this point.
The Giants went 9-6-1 this year under Daboll and Jones cut down on his turnovers in 2022. Jones and the Giants defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Wild Card round before falling to the NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round.
