Thankfully, Davante Adams cleared concussion protocol and was back at practice Wednesday. But he wanted to make sure Bills safety Taylor Rapp knew he still was seething after the illegal hit.

Adams, the star receiver for the Raiders, didn’t appreciate being hit in the helmet by a trailing safety after the Bills cornerback already had knocked the ball away. The play in question came near the end of the Raiders 38-10 loss to Buffalo. You can call that scrub time, at least for the Bills.

“Was it unnecessary? Completely, obviously,” Davante Adams told reporters. “But, certain players play a certain way, too. Some people, out of control, they fly around, they don’t really have much true purpose out there. I mean, playing a half field on one side, you run over and hit somebody in the head on the other side of the field.

“That’s the kind of stuff that contributes to you not being on the field,” said the Raiders receiver. “That’s why you’re in when you’re blowing us out by 25 at the end of the game. Maybe if that man learns how to play the game the right way, he’ll see the field. Until then, he’ll have to go and live off of plays like that, I guess.”

Jimmy Garoppolo did Davante Adams no favors with throw

There is video of the play. Officials flagged Rapp for unnecessary roughness. Cornerback Cam Lewis tried for the interception as Rapp played clean-up.

The play call did Davante Adams no favors. Jimmy Garoppolo threw the deep pass Adams’ way as three Bills DBs converged on him. The ball was short. Garoppolo was fortunate it wasn’t picked off. Then again, by them, the game wasn’t in doubt. The Raiders were throwing deep, down 25 points with three minutes to play.

Davante Adams tried to keep the Raiders in the game. He gave them an early 7-0 lead with a 16-yard touchdown. But by the third quarter, the Bills opened up an 18-point lead. Buffalo blew its season opener to the Jets and wanted to take out their frustrations on the Raiders.

Meanwhile, Rapp is trying to get comfortable in the Bills secondary. This is his first season with the team after playing five years with the Rams. He signed a one-year deal with the Bills back in March. He’s played in the first two games, but has yet to start.

As expected, Adams is Garoppolo’s most reliable receiver. He’s caught 12 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown this season. His reception total ranks 13th in the NFL.
