DeAndre Hopkins, the hottest free agent receiver left on the market, dropped a hint about a potential new team as he tried out a new social media app.

Hopkins, formerly of the Cardinals, apparently still was hanging out in New England. Or, at the very least, he had New England on his mind. So picture a steaming bowl of clam chowder. Or chow-dah as the locals call it. The chowder could even be in a bread bowl.

DeAndre Hopkins ordered the super-filling soup. But oops.

“I accidentally ate pork for the 1st time in 8 years because I ordered clam chowder in Boston,” Hopkins posted on Threads. “Somebody should’ve told me it’s bacon chowder 🤢”

We’re going to have to throw a flag on D-Hop for forgetting about his South Carolina roots or his time spent in Houston. All good southern cooks, at a minimum, drop a dollop of bacon grease in everything. Plus, almost all recipes for clam chowder also call for bacon.

This is from Serious Eats, so DeAndre Hopkins, take note in case you order it again: “Most basic recipes for clam chowder call for rendering down some form of salted pork (bacon or salt pork usually), sweating onions and celery in the rendered fat, a touch of flour, followed by milk, potatoes, chopped, and occasionally bottled clam juice.”

Let’s toss the recipes and chat about where else may DeAndre Hopkins play. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler thinks the Chiefs still are in play since the team is keeping in touch with the five-time Pro Bowler. However, Kansas City doesn’t have much money to spend at the moment. The Chiefs and defensive tackle Chris Jones are in negotiating for a long-term contract. And if the cap experts work their magic, maybe there’s enough money left over to compensate a receiver like Hopkins. The defending Super Bowl champions lost JuJu Smith-Schuster to the Patriots in free agency, so there’s a vacancy. Hopefully, Hopkins knows that KC is very proud of its pork ribs.

Last month, Hopkins visited both the Patriots and Titans. New England offers an interesting choice for Hopkins. Bill Belichick hired Bill O’Brien as his offensive coordinator. And O’Brien used to be the head coach of the Texans when Hopkins played there. In fact, the two spent six seasons together, with Hopkins surpassing 1,000 yards receiving in five of them.

So if you’re DeAndre Hopkins, maybe bring on the Patriots. Just watch what you order at the restaurant.
