Almost nobody expected Brock Purdy to succeed in the NFL. He did, though, leading the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl and it’s gotten plenty of attention around the sport, including from Colorado head coach and former NFL star Deion Sanders.

Ahead of the Super Bowl, Sanders made an appearance on First Take, where he called Purdy the best story of Super Bowl LVIII.

“Everybody in America has a title, whether you agree with it or not,” Deion Sanders said. “They give us a title. This kid is the best story probably that’s been [in the Super Bowl] in over two decades, coming from the last player taken [in the NFL Draft] to the Super Bowl, and lead his team to the Super Bowl because of his play.”

Sanders is so high on Purdy, in fact, that he even joked about recruiting a player like him to Colorado. He caught himself, though, not wanting to get accused of recruiting during the dead period.

“I love this kid, man. Shoot, I’m looking for a Brock Purdy [at Colorado]. … I’m sorry, I can’t recruit. [laughter] I’m sorry, this is a dead period.”

For now, at least, Deion Sanders has his son, Shedeur Sanders, to play quarterback for the Buffaloes. However, his eligibility won’t last forever, so it might be good to get someone in the same vein as Brock Purdy, who found plenty of success during his college career at Iowa State.

It was a phenomenal season for Purdy in San Francisco too. He finished the year with 4,280 yards passing and 31 touchdowns in 16 games. That’s the most single-season passing yards and the fourth most single-season touchdowns for a quarterback in 49ers’ history.

Jerry Rice labels Brock Purdy an ‘elite quarterback’

Deion Sanders isn’t the only legendary NFL player who thinks very highly of Brock Purdy. In fact, arguably the best wide receiver the game has seen and the top one in San Francisco history, Jerry Rice, went so far as to label him as an elite quarterback in the sport.

“‘Mr. Irrelevant,’ Brock Purdy, supposed to be that, I guess that game manager, that’s what they keep saying,” Jerry Rice said. “I feel like he’s an elite quarterback. I think we have a chance.”

Jerry Rice even went so far as to compare Brock Purdy to Steve Young and Joe Montana.

“He makes plays, man, like a Montana, like a Steve Young,” Rice said. “Just a down-to-earth person who wants to win. He’s going to do everything he can to get that victory.”
