The Denver Broncos tasted something better than revenge on Sunday with a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at home in Mile High. The Broncos had a 16-game losing streak against the Chiefs, but toppled the Patrick Mahomes-led squad 24-9.

After the final whistle, the Denver control room piped Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake it Off’ into the stadium speakers to troll the Grammy Award-winner’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his team in their defeat. Swift did not attend Sunday’s Week 8 game, which was reportedly because she is back in performance mode for the Eras Tour.

The loss to Denver was just the Chiefs’ second of the year, bringing their record to 6-2 through Week 8. Mahomes took three sacks for a loss of 28 yards and threw two interceptions and no touchdowns.

“Patrick Mahomes is a hard quarterback to sack,” Baron Browning said after the game. “He scrambles. He can move around, stop on a dime, spin around. There was a play early in the game where I thought I had a kill shot, he stopped. He’s a playmaker, so it feels good to be able to corral him like a chicken.”

Mahomes played the game against the Broncos despite feeling under the weather. “I started feeling bad last night,” Mahomes revealed after the loss.

Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson had a much better day under center than the Chiefs QB. Throwing 19 passes and completing 12, he found Jerry JeudyCourtland Sutton and running back Javonte Williams for touchdowns.

“I think it makes us believers,” right tackle Mike McGlinchey said after the win. “I truly do. I think this is a win that can really do something special for an organization — to take down the defending champs, to have it be our second in a row at home. … It’s starting to come together, and we’ve just got to keep getting better from it.”

Broncos shock Chiefs in blistering conditions

The Chiefs traveled to Denver to face the Broncos for the first snow game of the 2023 NFL regular season. Temperatures at Mile High ranged from a high of 29 degrees and a low of 13 degrees with six to 14 inches of snow falling throughout the day.

The scenes from the stadium were of a winter wonderland pre-game, despite Halloween still being days away. Las Vegas oddsmakers didn’t give the Broncos any advantage for hosting the Chiefs in the blistering conditions. Denver was a seven-point underdog at home but came out on top by two scores.
