The Carolina Panthers have traded away linebacker Denzel Perryman to the Las Vegas Raiders. The trade consists of a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and Perryman heading to the Raiders for a sixth-round pick in the 2022 draft. The trade is still pending a physical.

Perryman was originally the 48th pick in the second round of the 2015 draft by the then-San Diego Chargers. In college, he twice made the first-team all-ACC for the University of Miami. In his last season with the Hurricanes, he received third-team All-American honors.

He spent all six of his NFL seasons donning the powder blue for the Chargers before joining the Panthers this offseason. For four of those years, he was under Gus Bradley as his defensive coordinator. With him heading to Las Vegas, he will be reunited with Bradley under a familiar defensive scheme.

Perryman to the Raiders

The Raiders are taking a chance with Perryman given his injury history and the fact that he is currently dealing with a new injury. However, underneath Gus Bradley, Perryman has performed well. In their time with the Chargers, he started in 51 of the 69 games and recorded 349 tackles, 250 of them were solo. Not only that but he was used all over the field in various defensive schemes. Perryman has been used at multiple linebacker positions, mainly on the inside and right side. He has also been used in the secondary as a hybrid defensive back linebacker position. If he can stay on the field, Bradley definitely knows how to make use of Perryman in his defensive schemes.

The Panthers hopes

This offseason Perryman and the Carolina Panthers agreed to a two-year contract. He was brought in to compete for a starting linebacker position.

Unfortunately for Perryman things did not go as planned. Throughout his career, he has struggled with injury problems and his offseason was no different. Early in camp, he suffered a hip injury which has kept him limited in practice. He was making progress in his recovery but had a setback last week. And, his injury-riddled offseason left the door open for current Carolina linebacker Jermaine Carter Jr. Carter has been with the team since being drafted in the fifth round of the 2018 draft.

Perryman was brought in to help bring depth at the linebacker position for the Carolina Panthers. Unfortunately, due to his latest injuries, his time with the Panthers has ended before it even began.
