Former Georgia Bulldogs standout and current Detroit Lions running back D’Andre Swift was absent from the team’s first practice of the week. According to the Lions ‘ Wednesday injury report, Swift missed Wednesday’s practice with an ankle issue.

The injury likely occurred late in the fourth quarter when the former Bulldog planted while running a route. The Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell has yet to speak on his star running back’s absence from practice. But after the huge game he had in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles, if Swift is unable to play against the Washington Commanders, it’ll be a massive blow to the Detroit offense.

Swift is coming off the best season-opening performance of arguably his career. He lead in the Lions’ running game with 144 yards rushing on 15 carries with one touchdown; averaging a staggering 9.6 yards per carry.

On Wednesday, the Lions also promoted running back Justin Jackson from their practice squad to the main roster. The move may be injunction with Swift’s injury, but nothing is known for certain. For now, Lions and Bulldog fans will have to keep a sharp eye out on the star running back’s status for this Sunday’s game.

Georgia vs. Oklahoma home-and-home series canceled

Georgia will not be making a trip to Norman to take on Oklahoma until it joins the SEC. The SEC has announced that the home-and-home series between the Bulldogs and Sooners, scheduled to begin on September 9, 2023, has been canceled. Seth Emerson of The Athletic was the first to report.

The game is being canceled due to the fact that Oklahoma is joining the SEC. That’s expected to happen on July 1, 2025. Texas will also be making the move. The SEC directed both Georgia and Tennessee to cancel their upcoming series with the Sooners.

“The Southeastern Conference has directed the University of Georgia and the University of Tennessee to postpone scheduled football games versus Oklahoma because the transition of Oklahoma into the SEC will not allow for the involved institutions to fulfill their respective contractual non-conference home-and-home appearance obligations.

“Because the second non-conference game in each of the Georgia-Oklahoma and Tennessee-Oklahoma series is scheduled to take place after Oklahoma joins the SEC in 2025, the Conference is directing the postponement of the Georgia at Oklahoma game in 2023 and the Oklahoma at Tennessee game in 2024 until such time that those matchups become part of the Conference rotation of games in future years.”
