For the first time in seven seasons, the run game for the Dallas Cowboys should look a lot different without the services of Ezekiel Elliott. However, with how the franchise has built the roster this offseason, Dez Bryant isn’t so sure that a return by Elliott should be out of the question.

Bryant shared his opinion in a quote tweet over the weekend. He said that ‘it only makes sense’ to bring Eliott back to America’s team considering how the roster looks now and that it’d be ‘a win-win situation’ for both Dallas as well as ‘Zeke.

Elliott has played in 103 games for Dallas since the Cowboys selected him fourth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. In those appearances, he has rushed for over 8,200 yards and scored 68 touchdowns.

Even so, the last three seasons haven’t been nearly as good as his promising first four. In Elliott’s first four seasons, he led the NFL in rushing attempts and rushing yards twice, rushing yards per game three times, and total touches once. He made all three of his Pro Bowls in that stretch and was named as an All-Pro twice.

Since then, he hasn’t led the league in any categories or earned any accolades whatsoever with good enough numbers. That partially led to his release by Dallas back in March.

Still, Bryant thinks Dallas has made specific moves that could now make a reunion work. It might not have been the Cowboy’s original plan but, in his opinion, Dez thinks Jerry Jones should pull the trigger and bring Elliott, one of the franchises’s best ever running backs, back into the fold.

Report: Elliott ‘could continue to wait’ for next NFL opportunity, return to Cowboys in play

Ezekiel Elliott is still a free agent, but the star running back could return to the Dallas Cowboys after a wait and see approach, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Elliott received interest but didn’t sign with anyone during free agency. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said it was quite hard to replace a running back like Elliott.

Fowler provided the latest on the one they call Zeke Saturday morning on SportsCenter.

“Let’s go to Zeke Elliott, one of the top free agents still available, most accomplished,” Fowler said. “I checked in with somebody this week who said that Dallas has not closed the door on a potential Zeke return. Now there’s nothing cooking there and it might not happen.

“But I was told that Dallas certainly would re-engage in conversation if he wanted to do that. But he could continue to wait, see what develops in the next few months job-wise.”
