The Pittsburgh Steelers dropped a frustrating game to the Arizona Cardinals. After the game, wide receiver Diontae Johnson broke down what went wrong for Pittsburgh.

According to Johnson, the Steelers simply didn’t take the Cardinals seriously.

“I don’t know, I felt like that the whole week — once we got out there, I just felt like something was different,” Johnson said. “We [weren’t] at our best and whatnot. But I feel like we just took them [more] lightly than we should have.”

The Steelers were only about to put up 10 points against the Cardinals. For Arizona, it was the team’s third win this season and potentially hurt their NFL Draft position. However, the loss stung a lot more for Pittsburgh, which dropped to 7-5 on the season. With that, the Steelers are tied for second in the AFC North and two games behind Baltimore for first.

Offensive issues hung over Pittsburgh’s head in this game. Kenny Pickett started things off before getting injured. It was an ankle injury that’s going to require surgery and likely will cost him several weeks. In his place, Mitch Trubisky took over at quarterback.

For his own part, Diontae Johnson had four catches for 33 yards and Pittsburgh’s only touchdown.

The Steelers will have a quick week to turn things around with their game against New England coming on Thursday Night Football. Like the Cardinals, the Patriots are among the worst teams in football. However, for all of New England’s issues, playing good defense still isn’t one of them.

“We can’t come in this Thursday with the same mindset,” Johnson said. “We’re going to be fine. We’ve moved past it.”

Steelers WR Diontae Johnson owns up to lack of hustle vs. Bengals

During the Pittsburgh Steelers’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals, there was a highly scrutinized play that seemed to show wide receiver Diontae Johnson not putting up much effort on a play. That led to a lot of backlash from fans. One even accused him of quitting.

Johnson heard the criticism and owned up to the lack of hustle he showed during the play. He also said it wouldn’t happen again.

“It was really just me owning up to what I did on Sunday to the team and just let them know it won’t happen again,” Johnson said. “How I feel and how I should go about the situation next time it occurs. I own up to it. I am not perfect. So all I can do is keep moving forward and just play football. That’s all I’m worried about.”
