Friday’s practice will be a big one for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a high-ankle sprain on Monday in the loss to the Bengals and his participation level in Friday’s practice could determine whether he’ll play on Sunday. The Jaguars travel to face the Cleveland Browns and according to head coach Doug Pederson, Lawrence will be questionable heading into the weekend.

Despite his ankle sprain, Lawrence has put on a tough front. He didn’t take a cart back to the locker room after the injury and he’s exuded that same toughness in front of his teammates this week.

“When your QB exudes (toughness), it does send a message to your team in a good way,” Pederson said.

If Lawrence can play, he likely will. The former Clemson star hasn’t missed a game yet since entering the league in 2021.

“I’m really just taking it one day at a time,” Lawrence said on Wednesday. “I’m trying to do as much as I can each day without aggravating it or making anything worse but trying to progress towards hopefully playing. And for the past 48 hours there have been some big steps and I’m really happy with how it’s healing up.

“So, we’ll see. You know, I obviously can’t give any answers right now and just going to take my time and do everything right.”

Prior to his exit from the game on Monday, Lawrence had 22 completions on 29 attempts for 258 yards and two touchdowns. So far this season, he has 3,004 passing yards, 248 rushing yards and 18 total touchdowns with seven interceptions. Despite leading the Jaguars to an 8-4 start, the third-year star isn’t considered a leader in the league’s MVP race.

Lawrence ‘questionable’ for Sunday vs Browns

Lawrence sustained the injury after getting his right ankle stepped on by his own offensive lineman while standing in the pocket. He needed assistance getting to his feet before collapsing back down to the ground. The 24-year-old slammed his helmet in frustration before being helped off the field and taken into the locker room for further examination.

With Lawrence sidelined, Jacksonville turned to veteran backup C.J. Beathard. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, Beathard was unable to lead the team to victory. The Bengals defeated the Jaguars, 34-31, after Evan McPherson nailed a 48-yard game-winning field goal in overtime.

The Jaguars are prepared to turn to Beathard again in Week 14 versus the Browns. However, it’s unclear if the backup is 100% healthy himself. He suffered a shoulder injury against the Bengals that had him start the week of practice as a limited participant.
