Former Duke offensive lineman Graham Barton got his name called after a wait on Thursday night during the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit. And the former ACC blocker is off to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being taken with pick No. 26.

Barton played in several spots for the Blue Devils along the offensive line, primarily ending up at left tackle in recent seasons. However, he likely projects as an interior lineman, either a guard or center, at the next level. But the college experience at tackle at least presents the opportunity for Barton to kick out if needed for a spell.

All told, he played in 40 games across four seasons at Duke, making 39 starts. He was a first team All-ACC selection in both 2022 and 2023. He was also an integral piece of the Duke teams that helped the program ascend to consistent ACC contention under head coach Mike Elko.

Barton played high school football at Ravenwood (Tenn.) High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 718 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Barton

NFL analysts are fairly high on Barton, with NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein giving him a first round grade.

Much of the appeal comes from the fact that Barton so consistently blends his high-level technique with strength, bend and control at the point of attack. He’s a bit limited by a slightly smaller frame and shorter arms, but he makes up for his measurable dings with consistent rep after consistent rep.

“Reviewing Barton’s tape is a pleasurable experience in offensive line evaluation, as his tenacity and know-how are on full display throughout,” Zierlein said in his evaluation. “Though he played at a high level at left tackle, center will likely be his NFL home. Barton is an explosive drive blocker with the body control and leg drive to keep opponents centered and finish the job. His hands are sudden, accurate and strong in both phases, but a lack of length will create occasional challenges on the next level. His fluidity creates an advantage as a second-level climber, and he’s highly capable in the screen game. Barton’s technique, toughness and athleticism are exactly what teams will be looking for from an early starter with Pro Bowl potential.”
