The Philadelphia Eagles have been having a rough stretch to the end of their regular season. They’ve lost four of their last five games and after Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals, things got even worse. Star wide receiver DeVonta Smith was spotted with crutches and was in a walking boot when he left the stadium.

He’s been one of the more dominant receivers in the National Football League, hauling in over 1,000 receiving yards in back-to-back seasons. Smith is a massive piece of the Eagles’ offensive attack, and his injury certainly clouds their chances to make a run in the upcoming 2024 NFL Playoffs.

Philly currently has a spot locked up in the playoffs. Right now, they’re sitting as the No. 5 seed in the NFC.

The Eagles will close out their 2023-2024 campaign with the New York Giants on January 7th.

Last year in Philly’s run to the Super Bowl, the former Alabama star delivered when his team needed him the most–in Super Bowl LVII against Kansas City. He hauled in seven catches for 100 yards in the Eagles’ 38-35 loss to the Chiefs.

During his college football career, once he hung up his cleats with the Crimson Tide, he finished as one of the greatest receivers in college football history. Smith currently owns the SEC and Alabama career record for receiving touchdowns with 46, passing the previous mark of 31 set by Amari Cooper (2012-2014) and Chris Doering of Florida (1992-1995). The Louisiana native also hauled in a program record 235 catches in his storied career there.

DeVonta Smith had a monster 2020 season and was a big part of Alabama going undefeated and winning the national championship.

Smith played sparingly in 2017 and 2018 in his first two years with Alabama. In 2019, he broke out with 68 receptions for 1,256 yards and 14 touchdowns. In his final year there, Smith hauled in 117 receptions for 1,856 yards and 24 total touchdowns in his Heisman Trophy-winning season. He’s one of four Heisman Trophy winners in Alabama football history.

He played his high school football for Amite (Amite, Louisiana). In the 2017 cycle, Smith was one of the most highly touted prospects in the country. He was rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 58 overall player in the nation. Smith was also a participant in the U.S. Army All-American Game.
