While he was originally scheduled to take part in the short track package test at New Hampshire, Erik Jones is skipping the makeup at Richmond. The thing is, he has a great excuse. When it comes to work, the driver rarely takes a break. But I guess NASCAR and LEGACY Motor Club can let him skip the test for his own wedding.

Getting married and having kids is tricky for NASCAR drivers. Do you plan everything for the wintertime when you are in the offseason? Or do you try and fit it in during the middle of the week between races? When you are competing 38 weeks out of the year, these things tend to happen.

Erik Jones and his soon-to-be wife, Holly Shelton will be married in Michigan ahead of the race weekend there.

While talking with Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports, Jones revealed his upcoming wedding plans and why things didn’t work out with the rescheduled short-track package test.

“Yeah, I think I had a good day-off-work excuse for that one. I’m getting married that week in Michigan. Tuesday is my rehearsal dinner. So as soon as they changed that in New Hampshire, I was shooting some notes out saying, ‘Hey, you guys are probably well aware of this.’ A lot of them are coming to the wedding. So I can’t make that test. I think Noah [Gragson] is going to fill in for me. He’s made sure to tell me many times that he’s filling in for me for that one. A good reason to miss. I think I get a free pass on that one.”

Erik Jones also has a lot of changes going on at the LEGACY Motor Club shop.

Erik Jones has a new boss at LEGACY Motor Club

News came out this week that LEGACY Motor Club has hired a new CEO. Cal Wells III was named to the position and he should be a great fit. Wells has a ton of experience working with Toyota. He’s built programs in off-road trucks, IndyCar, and NASCAR with the manufacturer and has found success in just about every venture he’s taken on.

With the move to Toyota for LEGACY next season, it makes sense. Let’s not forget it wasn’t long ago that Erik Jones was a Toyota driver. He found some early success with the manufacturer and now they are coming in to help get LEGACY on the right track.

There have been a lot of different moves made around NASCAR. Teams are preparing for the playoffs, or looking ahead to the 2024 season. There are 15 races left on the schedule this year, and there are plenty of chances for teams to make some noise, win some races, and make some money.

However, with the season that LEGACY Motor Club has had with Erik Jones and Noah Gragson on the track, 2024 looks like the light at the end of the tunnel.
