It’s becoming the worst-kept secret in the NFL that the New York Jets are going all in at the moment for a new quarterback. They’ve been connected to several names but, at this point, which ones are realistic to land in The Big Apple?

Dan Orlovsky from ESPN joined The Rich Eisen Show to discuss who he thinks the Jets should go after. Considering where the team is, he put a pair of former MVPs who seem very likely to be on the move ahead of the next season first and second on his list.

“I think the Jets have to take a big swing next year. I’m taking Jimmy Garrappolo and Geno (Smith) out of this conversation for right now,” said Orlovsky. “A big swing? One – Aaron Rodgers. It is what it is. I get it. It’s a roll of the dice. There’s no questions asked. Number two is Lamar Jackson. Does Baltimore tag him and then what do they want for him? I just think that’s a very real thing.”

From there, he brought two new names to the table in Matthew Stafford from the Rams and Dak Prescott from the Cowboys. Considering their contract situations and unique issues with both of them, Orlovsky thinks both of them could be more attainable than we may think.

“Number three? Matthew Stafford. Where does he fit with the contract situation with the Rams? How do the Rams do their football team next year? And what does it cost to get him?,” asked Orlovsky. “Then the fourth? I’d say Dak Prescott from Dallas. They’re not in a great cap situation, he’s gonna be expensive. Are you disappointed after last year?”

The disgruntled Rodgers is the oldest but, obviously, the dream scenario. Regardless of what anyone thinks, he’s a four-time MVP and Super Bowl champion who just threw for 3,695 yards and 26 touchdowns at 39 years old. After that, Jackson makes the most sense as the youngest while also being the league’s best dual-threat weapon.

However, Stafford and Prescott are very intriguing considering their situations. Stafford is coming off an injury-prone season after winning Super Bowl LVI in LA. As for Prescott, his time may be running out on ‘America’s Team’ after yet another playoff shortcoming. Combine their contracts that make them two of the league’s ten most expensive quarterbacks and Orlovsky’s point makes even more sense.

New York’s front office has some big decisions to make this offseason at their most important decision. With that in mind, picking any of these four would be a major step toward their first playoff appearance in 2010.
