Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant commented on the recent firing of New York Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, who coached him in Dallas. Bryant’s strange comment on Twitter seemed to reassure rookie receiver Kadarius Toney that his career will be much better with Garrett leaving.

Dez Bryant on Jason Garrett

“After hearing the news about [Jason Garrett], Kadarius Toney you will get to experience the love and joy for football throughout your career.”

After replies to his comment poked fun at Bryant by saying he clearly didn’t like Garrett, Bryant clarified his stance was on Garrett as a coach, not as a person.

“Great dude. Never respected his philosophy towards players and the game.”

Bryant’s comments on Garrett were in line with the last time his former coach was fired. Bryant claimed he had “no sympathy for coach Garrett losing his job,” after Garrett was released as head coach for the Cowboys.

Garrett coached the Cowboys from 2010 through 2019, finishing with an 85-67 record and only three playoff appearances. Under Garrett’s tenure, the Cowboys were regarded by many as failing to live up to the expectations their talent warranted.

Bryant had previously made headlines involving Garrett, after agreeing with a Twitter post that implied the former Cowboys coach wasted the prime years of many players’ careers.

Kadarius Toney under Garrett

When Bryant commented on Garrett’s release from New York, he used the chance to compliment and give mention to rookie first-round pick Kadarius Toney.

Toney has shown his skill and potential at times during the 2021 season, with 392 yards on 35 receptions so far. Critics of Garrett and the Giants claim that the struggling offense should have a greater impact with Toney. The Giants are 25th in the league scoring with just 18.9 points per game, and 23rd in yards per fame with 322.8.

Under Garrett’s lead at offensive coordinator, the Giants have begun their season with a 3-7 record. Garrett’s critics claim he ran too conservative and “safe” an offense throughout his coaching career. In addition to their struggles this season, Giants’ fans have been frustrated with what appears to be a slow development with quarterback Daniel Jones.
